HiddenLight has teamed up with Universal Pictures Content Group to co-produce the feature-length documentary “Tutu,” directed by Sam Pollard. This film is set to debut at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Pollard, known for his Oscar-nominated works such as “Four Little Girls,” “MLK/FBI,” and “Citizen Ashe,” explores the life of Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Tutu was a pivotal figure in South Africa’s fight against apartheid, using his moral conviction to inspire change and influence generations globally. The documentary will be showcased in the festival’s Special Presentation section.

Drawing on firsthand accounts and previously unseen archival footage from journalist Roger Friedman and activist-photographer Benny Gool, “Tutu” narrates the courageous journey of the celebrated Nobel Peace Prize laureate, who received the honour in 1984. His essential role in dismantling apartheid is further highlighted through his leadership of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which aimed to address past injustices.

The film is produced by Johnny Webb for HiddenLight, with Ellie Phillips as a co-producer, and Paul Trewartha serving as the story producer and editor.

The executive production team includes Pollard, Ricardo Pollack, Niclas Kjellström Matseke (chairman of the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation), Richard Branson, Sam Branson, Cristina Ljungberg, Dr Kop Matseke, Dr Ayanda Ntsaluba, Jens von Bahr, Shannon Sedgwick Davis, and Helen Parker from Universal Pictures Content Group, along with South African comedian Trevor Noah and producer Sanaz Yamin from Day Zero Prods.
