West Africa’s premier film distribution company, FilmOne Entertainment, has achieved a remarkable milestone with the anime movie ‘Demon Slayer,’ which garnered an impressive US$54,828 during its opening weekend. This achievement marks the highest-grossing anime box office debut in West African history.

By engaging Nigeria’s vibrant anime community in cities such as Lagos, Ibadan, and Benin, FilmOne is reshaping entertainment experiences and broadening content options for a new generation of film enthusiasts.

To celebrate this landmark success, a community watch party was held at Filmhouse Cinemas IMAX in Lekki, attracting a record number of fans and showcasing the genre’s increasing cultural significance. The film’s excellence was further solidified by nationwide screenings in major cities, enhancing its popularity.

Kene Okwuosa, Group CEO of Filmhouse Group, noted, “This achievement highlights the audience’s desire for diverse narratives in Nigeria. At Filmhouse Group, our goal is to lead this evolution by diversifying cinema content, exploring new territories, and bringing communities together through stories that resonate with them.”

Emphasising the importance of varied content, Ladun Awobokun, Chief Content Officer of FilmOne Entertainment, remarked, “This triumph proves that the future of cinema in West Africa rests on diversity. FilmOne Entertainment is dedicated to promoting all types of storytelling—from Nollywood and Hollywood to Bollywood and anime—delivering these experiences at the scale our audiences expect.”

Through this success, FilmOne Entertainment is expanding its reach beyond conventional Nollywood and Hollywood films, solidifying Filmhouse Group’s position as a leading innovator in African cinema and distribution.
