BBC Studios has appointed Rose Hughes as the new Senior Vice President of Global Format Sales. In her new role, Hughes will lead the Global Format Sales team and develop the sales strategy for unscripted and scripted formats, reporting directly to Jacob de Boer, EVP of Global Entertainment. This appointment marks Hughes’s return to BBC Studios, where she previously worked as Senior Sales Executive for Formats Licensing in the Nordics and Benelux.

With 15 years of experience in TV distribution, Hughes has a strong background across various genres. She joins BBC Studios from Seven One Studios, where she served as VP of Sales and collaborated with notable producers like Snowman and CPL. Hughes played an instrumental role in reviving “Married at First Sight New Zealand” and contributed to the CBS pilot adaptation of the German scripted format “Einstein.” Additionally, she led brand partnership initiatives, including an AVOD and FAST deal with Nine Australia that featured over 900 hours of “Married at First Sight” content.

Prior to her tenure at Seven One Studios, Hughes worked at Keshet International as VP of Finished Programmes, Formats, Co-Productions, and Pre-Buys, where she managed sales strategies across the Digital space, Scandinavia, the UK, the US, and Canada.

Jacob de Boer, EVP of Global Entertainment, expressed his enthusiasm about Hughes’s return: “I’m thrilled to welcome Rose back to BBC Studios to lead our Global Format Sales team—an essential role for enhancing our commercial revenues. With her impressive track record and extensive experience, she is perfectly positioned to introduce our renowned unscripted and scripted formats to wider audiences worldwide.”

Hughes remarked: “The globally recognized brands like ‘The 1% Club,’ ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ ‘The Great Bake Off,’ ‘The Office,’ and ‘Ghosts’ highlight the remarkable range of BBC Studios’ catalogue. With world-class creators developing exciting new formats, such as the radical reality dating show ‘The Honesty Box,’ the anti-love story ‘Homebound 3.0,’ and the noir thriller ‘Blackshore,’ this is an exciting time for me to return. I look forward to expanding beloved brands and introducing innovative new formats to broader audiences.”

Hughes is set to assume her new role in February 2025.
