CineGouna Emerge Selects 155 Emerging Filmmakers From 16 Countries

El Gouna Film Festival (GFF) has selected 155 emerging filmmakers and creative professionals from 16 countries for the fourth edition of its CineGouna Emerge programme, expanding its support for the next generation of talent across Egypt, Africa and the Arab world.

The 2026 cohort is the programme’s largest to date, selected from approximately 1,000 applicants across 20 Egyptian governorates and 15 other countries. The initiative is supported by the Sawiris Foundation, the European Union in Egypt and the DROSOS Foundation.

Participants will receive festival accreditation and access to the CineGouna Forum, CineGouna Market, screenings, specialist workshops and networking opportunities. The programme is organised around three tracks — SeeMee, Perspectives and Take Two — designed to connect emerging professionals with industry practitioners and support their development across different areas of filmmaking.

A central feature is the “Meet the Experts” series, which gives participants opportunities to learn from experienced professionals in directing, producing, visual effects, music composition and acting. The programme also aims to help participants build relationships that can support future collaborations and move projects towards production.

For African film industries, initiatives such as CineGouna Emerge address a persistent challenge: developing creative talent requires more than technical training alone. Access to producers, distributors, financiers, mentors and potential collaborators can be equally important in helping filmmakers turn ideas into viable projects.

The programme also provides a meeting point for emerging professionals from different countries, potentially strengthening cross-border creative networks and future co-productions. Its value will ultimately depend on whether those connections lead to completed projects, employment and sustained participation in the industry beyond the festival.

As African cinema seeks wider distribution and stronger international partnerships, talent-development platforms can help build the professional relationships and skills needed to support a more connected regional film ecosystem. CineGouna Emerge’s expanding cohort reflects continued investment in that pipeline, with the longer-term impact extending beyond the festival itself.
