President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed a new seven-member Board of the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ), which will oversee the regulation, development and growth of the country’s broadcasting sector.
The appointments were confirmed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Mr Nick Mangwana, who said the new board was appointed in accordance with Section 4 (2) of the Broadcasting Services Act (Chapter 12:06).
The newly appointed board members are Tendai Jennifer Mandizvidza, Godfrey Mutobaya, Magna Mudyiwa, Caroline Makoni, Cloud Nyamundanda, Chief Serima (Vengai Rushwaya), and Prime Kufakunesu.
The members will serve a four-year term.
In confirming the appointments, Mr Mangwana stated: “His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, has appointed the following persons as members of the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe Board, for a period of four (4) years.”
The appointment comes as Zimbabwe’s broadcasting industry continues to evolve amid technological change, digitalisation and growing demand for diverse and innovative media services.
The new BAZ Board is expected to play a key role in strengthening regulatory oversight, ensuring compliance with broadcasting legislation and supporting the continued development and transformation of Zimbabwe’s broadcasting landscape.
