wedotv Expands German Reach With PŸUR Carriage Deal For Free Movie Channel

wedotv is extending its footprint in Germany after securing a carriage deal with Tele Columbus. The agreement makes the company’s free, ad-supported movie channel available to customers on the PŸUR cable television platform.

The partnership, which takes effect immediately, adds wedotv Movies to the PŸUR channel line-up on channel 55. The move gives around three million households access to a free schedule of movies and television series as part of their standard cable package, without requiring an additional subscription.

The launch reflects Wedotv’s continued efforts to grow beyond its streaming roots and reach audiences wherever they choose to watch television. While FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television) services have traditionally focused on connected TVs and streaming apps, the company is increasingly extending its content into conventional broadcast environments, where many viewers still consume television through linear channels.

The channel features a rotating line-up of international and European films and television series drawn from wedotv’s streaming catalogue. Operating as a FAST service, it is funded through advertising, allowing viewers to watch without paying a monthly subscription.

Advertising also plays an important role behind the scenes. On the PŸUR platform, wedotv will continue using HbbTV-enabled advertising technology, allowing commercial breaks to be delivered dynamically through Dynamic Ad Insertion (DAI) and Dynamic Ad Substitution (DAS). This enables advertisers to serve more relevant campaigns based on audience profiles, programme context and connected TV capabilities, while giving brands greater flexibility in reaching viewers.

For wedotv, the agreement is about more than simply adding another distribution partner. It also strengthens the company’s position in Germany’s competitive television market by combining the broad reach of traditional cable with the growing opportunities offered by digital advertising and connected television technologies.

Philipp Rotermund, Founder and CEO of wedotv, said the partnership with PŸUR will help the company expand its presence in Germany’s cable television market and increase the reach of its linear channels.

Tele Columbus also sees the partnership as a way to enhance its entertainment offering. Marcus Zoll, Director of Content at the company, said wedotv Movies adds another free movie destination to the PŸUR line-up and gives subscribers convenient access to the streaming provider’s content through their existing cable television service.

The agreement forms part of wedotv’s broader expansion strategy across German-speaking markets, where the company has been strengthening partnerships around HbbTV, FAST services and IP-based television distribution. Alongside wedotv Movies, its portfolio includes specialist channels such as wedotv Sports, wedotv Big Stories, wedotv True Stories and wedotv Amor.

As broadcasters and streaming providers continue to blur the lines between traditional television and digital distribution, partnerships such as this illustrate how FAST services are finding new opportunities by combining familiar linear viewing with the targeting and flexibility of modern advertising technology.
