As Africa’s broadcasting sector continues its transition toward digital and cloud-enabled operations, the issues of spectrum allocation and the economics of digital transmission are emerging as critical regulatory and industry priorities. These issues will form the focus of an important discussion at the Cloud Broadcasting Summit – Africa 2026, scheduled to take place from 24 – 25 March 2026 in Central Lagos, Nigeria.
With increasing demand for wireless connectivity, digital broadcasting services, and data-driven media distribution, spectrum has become one of the most valuable resources within the communications ecosystem. Policymakers, regulators, broadcasters, and technology providers are now facing complex questions about how spectrum should be allocated, managed, and priced to ensure both industry sustainability and public access to media services.
The session will examine the economic realities facing broadcasters as they migrate from legacy analogue infrastructure to digital and cloud-based transmission models. It will also explore the regulatory frameworks required to balance competing demands from mobile operators, broadcast networks, and emerging digital platforms.
Industry leaders attending the summit will explore how spectrum policies can support innovation, encourage investment in next-generation broadcast infrastructure, and ensure that broadcasters remain competitive in an increasingly converged media environment. Discussions will also address the financial implications of digital transmission, including infrastructure costs, licensing models, and the long-term sustainability of digital terrestrial broadcasting across the African continent.
According to Benjamin Pius, CEO of Broadcast Media Africa, the conversation around spectrum management is central to the future of broadcasting in Africa. “Spectrum allocation is not just a regulatory matter—it directly impacts the economics and viability of digital broadcasting. As African broadcasters continue their digital transformation journey, regulatory frameworks must evolve in ways that encourage investment, support innovation, and ensure that broadcasters can operate sustainably within an increasingly competitive communications environment.”
The Cloud Broadcasting Summit – Africa 2026 will bring together senior executives from broadcasting organisations, regulators, technology providers, and industry stakeholders to examine how cloud technologies, digital distribution models, and regulatory policies are reshaping the future of broadcasting across the continent.
The summit will provide a platform for practical dialogue on how African markets can build resilient, future-ready broadcast ecosystems that leverage both cloud infrastructure and modern spectrum management strategies.
