The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) is urging MultiChoice Malawi to reconsider its subscription pricing to enhance affordability and accessibility for a broader range of Malawians. This appeal was voiced by MACRA’s Acting Director General, Mayamiko Nkoloma, during a recent meeting with the company.
In response to MACRA’s concerns, MultiChoice Malawi’s Managing Director, Averess Ndlovu-Chella, expressed the company’s openness to discussing potential modifications to its pricing structure. She highlighted that this initiative aligns with MultiChoice’s overarching goal of fostering the development of Malawi’s media and entertainment sector.
Furthermore, Ndlovu-Chella emphasised the importance of ongoing communication with MACRA to fortify their collaborative efforts. She also sought the regulator’s assistance regarding the repatriation of revenues to MultiChoice’s parent company based in South Africa.
This dialogue is part of sustained efforts by regulators and service providers to strike a balance between the sustainability of the industry and consumer affordability within Malawi’s broadcasting and communications landscape.
