Senegal: Sonatel Orange Introduces Satellite Internet Service

January 12, 2026

In a significant advancement in digital connectivity, Sonatel Orange has launched Senegal’s first satellite internet service, marking a pivotal step in the country’s digital transformation. This new offering, developed in collaboration with the Eutelsat Konnect platform, provides unlimited high-speed internet access to households and businesses throughout Senegal.

By harnessing satellite technology alongside its established fibre, 4G, and 5G networks, Orange is now claiming coverage of 99% of Senegal’s territory. This development is vital in reaching remote and rural areas that have long faced challenges in obtaining reliable internet connectivity. The satellite service is currently operational and being installed by local technical teams, addressing intricate connectivity issues while enhancing Senegal’s technological independence through local resources and infrastructure.

This launch supports the country’s Horizon 2050 development initiative, under which Orange has pledged to establish an additional 1 million fibre-optic connections between 2026 and 2028. By the end of 2028, the total number of fibre-optic sockets is expected to approach 2 million. The first deployments are anticipated to be completed by December 2025 in several strategic yet often isolated communities, including Moudery, Sare Bidji, Ndiedieng, Ogo, and Koungheul, with further expansions planned soon.

Orange’s overarching strategy emphasises inclusive connectivity, prioritising high-speed internet access for all regions rather than limiting it to urban areas. The company aims to strengthen its partnership in the digitalisation of public services, support the education and healthcare sectors, enable secure government communications, and provide citizens with vital access to essential digital services.

Through substantial investments in satellite, fibre, and mobile infrastructure, Sonatel Orange is solidifying its role as a foundation for Senegal’s digital advancement, fostering sustainable economic growth and social transformation nationwide.
