The fund will support partnerships with local organisations. To achieve these aims, the funding will support partnerships with local organisations working in digital skills development and cyber security. The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) will collaborate with universities to embed AI-focused coursework into academic programmes, building a long-term pipeline of graduates ready for an AI-driven future. The African Technology Forum (ATF) will also lead an AI innovation challenge, guiding developers from intensive bootcamp training through to product development and pitching.
Digital safety is another key pillar of the initiative. Junior Achievement Africa will broaden its Be Internet Awesome programme to educate young people, parents, and teachers nationwide on safe online behaviour. In parallel, the CyberSafe Foundation will expand cyber security training and provide technical support to public institutions to help strengthen the country’s digital defences.
Google highlighted the human impact of its digital training efforts with the story of Joel Kiate, a digital marketer in Abuja who secured employment after completing Google’s training—despite having failed multiple attempts at university entrance exams.
“When people gain access to the right tools and opportunities, they don’t simply find jobs—they build careers and become active contributors to Nigeria’s digital economy,” a Google spokesperson said.
This investment further signals global trust in Nigeria’s technology sector and underlines the nation’s role as a leader in Africa’s digital transformation. As new opportunities emerge, Google’s support is set to help shape Nigeria’s economy and its place on the global technology stage.
