MTN South Africa is making significant strides in network expansion and modernisation, ensuring top-notch coverage, quality, and reliability for customers, businesses, and public sector entities.

In a demonstration of its commitment to multi-stakeholder engagement, MTN South Africa recently hosted the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA). This event emphasised the importance of collaboration among regulators, government, and industry partners to foster digital and economic growth in South Africa.

The high-profile meeting featured MTN South Africa’s incoming Deputy CEO, Yolanda Cuba, alongside Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer, Nompilo Morafo, and the executive leadership team. Chairman Mothibi Ramusi led ICASA’s delegation.

Discussions during the session centred on telecommunications industry priorities and national concerns, including the costs of communication, ongoing investment in digital infrastructure, the digitisation of government and society, and collaborative strategies to tackle industry challenges.

Mothibi Ramusi, Chairman of ICASA, remarked, “Today’s engagement is not merely about regulation; it emphasises collaboration and understanding between MTN and ICASA. Working together allows us to harness technology’s full potential to bridge the digital divide, empower communities, and enhance South Africa’s position in the global digital economy.”

MTN reaffirmed its dedication to constructive engagement with regulators and partners, recognising it as vital for fostering a sustainable, inclusive, and competitive telecommunications industry. The company is committed to collaborating with ICASA and other stakeholders to ensure that every South African can benefit from dependable, affordable, and innovative connectivity.

The organisation proudly identifies as a responsible South African company and continues to invest heavily in expanding and modernising its network to deliver world-class services. Through its Ambition 2025 strategy, MTN South Africa has accelerated the deployment of 4G and 5G infrastructure and launched initiatives such as Smartphone For All to promote digital inclusion. These efforts are designed to propel the nation’s digital transformation and create new growth opportunities across various sectors, aligning with national priorities such as job creation, small business development, and the overall digitalisation of the economy.

This meeting is part of MTN South Africa’s broader multi-stakeholder engagement strategy, which aims to strengthen collaboration with key government, business, and civil society partners. The goal is to create shared value and expedite South Africa’s journey toward a connected and inclusive future.

“We take pride in our role in fostering a dynamic, sustainable telecommunications sector that contributes significantly to the nation’s recovery and growth. Alongside ICASA and other industry partners, we are working towards a connected, competitive South Africa that is well-prepared for the future.”
