Nigeria and Denmark Forge Tech Partnership For Digital Transformation

Nigeria and Denmark have embarked on a new journey of technological collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that emphasises digitalisation, innovation, and the development of artificial intelligence (AI).

The agreement was formalised in Lagos during the fourth edition of the Nordic Nigeria Connect Forum, where Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, and Denmark’s State Secretary for Trade and Investment, Lina Gandløse Hansen, signed the MoU.

The forum’s theme was “Forging Partnerships for Sustainable Impact. ” It convened innovators from the Nordic countries and Nigeria to collaborate on a common vision for inclusive technological progress.

This MoU follows Dr Tijani’s visit to Copenhagen in August, where he inaugurated the Nordic-Africa Summit at Denmark’s annual innovation festival. Officials noted that the visit sparked mutual interest, leading to actionable collaboration between the two nations.

The partnership will focus on three key areas: improving digital connectivity, fostering innovation in the public sector, and advancing talent development.

Hansen described the agreement as “the first tangible step forward” in enhancing innovation-driven growth between Nigeria and Denmark. “This signing is a product of the Honourable Minister’s visit to Copenhagen, which ignited meaningful dialogue and quick action. When Nigeria seeks collaboration, Denmark is ready to respond,” she stated, pledging that Denmark will work to ensure the partnership yields significant outcomes.

Dr Tijani praised Denmark’s dedication to Nigeria’s digital transformation goals, asserting, “This signing is more than just a formality; it signifies a real commitment to Nigeria’s growth and potential.” He also expressed that both countries will collaboratively explore avenues for expanding broadband access, adapting innovative digital governance solutions from Denmark, and creating remote work opportunities for Nigerian professionals in Danish companies.
