
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer a distant prospect—it is here, shaping how media is produced, distributed, and consumed. Across Africa, the rise of AI presents both a transformative opportunity and a pressing challenge: How can the continent harness AI’s power to drive innovation while ensuring that local realities, cultural diversity, and equitable access remain at the centre?
This critical question will be the focus of the upcoming Broadcasters Convention—Southern Africa 2025, where industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators will gather.
At the heart of the discussion will be how AI can empower African media to scale local content production, expand economic participation through new commerce and advertising models, and bridge connectivity gaps that have long hindered access for rural and underserved communities. The conversation will also tackle challenges head-on—from the risk of deepening the digital divide, to questions of cultural sovereignty and ethical adoption.
The Broadcasters Convention – Southern Africa 2025, hosted by the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) and co-convened by Broadcast Media Africa (BMA) and the Southern African Broadcasting Association (SABA), will take place at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge in Zimbabwe from 28 to 30 October 2025. Delegates will gain direct insights into how AI is redefining the future of broadcasting, not as a distant possibility, but as a reality already shaping the continent’s media and communications landscape.
The Broadcasters Convention—Southern Africa is the region’s leading platform for dialogue, collaboration, and innovation in broadcasting. It provides a space for stakeholders to strategise on keeping media at the centre of Africa’s digital transformation and socio-economic development.
