Streaming: Kava Launches In The UK, Seeking International Expansion

African storytelling is making significant strides globally, exemplified by the recent launch of Kava, a Nigerian streaming platform, which celebrated its debut with a star-studded event in London, UK.

Kava arrives in the UK market and is committed to providing African films with the same global reach and visibility as Hollywood films. Originally introduced in Lagos in July 2025, Kava is the collaborative vision of Kene Okwuosa, the Group CEO of Filmhouse Group (which includes FilmOne Entertainment, FilmOne Studios, and Filmhouse Cinemas), and Chinaza Onuzo, the CEO of Inkblot Productions. Both leaders have significantly transformed the African cinema landscape through their innovative approaches to film culture, distribution, and production.

During its inaugural launch, viewers can gain exclusive early access through the website kava.tv; the mobile app is expected to launch in the coming weeks.

Kava boasts over 30 Nollywood titles available for viewing, featuring a mix of recent cinematic hits and unique original content, with new titles introduced weekly.

This expansion highlights Nollywood’s increasing global presence. Recent successful films produced and distributed by FilmOne Studios and Inkblot Productions highlight the international demand for Nigerian stories, paving the way for Kava to emerge as a premier platform for African storytelling on a global scale.

Considering that over 17 million Nigerians live abroad and expanding African communities in the UK, Europe, and North America, the timing of Kava’s launch is particularly strategic. This UK debut could set the stage for Nollywood to flourish as a significant cultural export worldwide.
