Lesotho: Econet Telecom Launches New Internet Solution For Enhanced Connectivity

July 17, 2025

A A

Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL) has introduced Wi-Fi PLUS, a cutting-edge internet solution tailored to the growing connectivity demands of households and businesses nationwide. This service is designed to provide fast, reliable, and uninterrupted internet access, facilitating activities such as streaming, remote work, e-learning, and smart home applications.

The launch of Wi-Fi PLUS stems from ETL’s continuous investment in its infrastructure, which includes a substantial upgrade to its Radio Access Network (RAN) and transport network initiated in February 2025. The first phase of this upgrade has been completed in Maseru, with further developments scheduled for implementation by July 30, 2025.

  • High-Speed Performance: With improvements made to ETL’s 4G network and the expansion of its 5G rollout, Wi-Fi PLUS offers enhanced speed and signal stability. The number of 5G sites in Lesotho is increasing from 54 to 149, utilising the 700 MHz spectrum for better coverage and penetration.
  • Enhanced Network Capacity: Upgrades to the transport backbone and the phased introduction of high-capacity radio units significantly enhance overall network performance while reducing congestion.
  • AI-Driven Reliability: ETL has integrated AI into its network operations, allowing for predictive maintenance, real-time optimisation, and quick resolution of any faults.
  • Optimised Customer Experience: Deployments are conducted site-by-site to ensure quality and limit disruptions. Although temporary interruptions may occur, ETL has assured customers that these will be minimal and managed thoughtfully.

Wi-Fi PLUS is more than just a connectivity service; it forms part of a comprehensive national initiative. The upgraded infrastructure aims to facilitate smoother video conferencing, uninterrupted digital learning, and improved business operations. Furthermore, it supports essential sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, and financial services, enhancing Lesotho’s digital economy.

ETL intends to finalise the current phase of upgrades by July 30, 2025, setting the stage for the nationwide rollout of Wi-Fi PLUS. With enhanced core network capacity, broader 5G coverage, and reduced congestion, customers can look forward to a consistent and high-quality internet experience for years.

Wi-Fi PLUS marks a significant advancement in Econet Telecom Lesotho’s commitment to delivering innovative, future-ready telecommunications solutions that promote growth for individuals and the nation.
