Content Streaming: Bundesliga OTT Service Expands To South Africa

The German Football League (DFL) has announced the expansion of its international over-the-top (OTT) service, the Bundesliga Pass, into South Africa following its initial launch in India last August.

Bundesliga Pass allows fans to watch every match from Germany’s top two soccer leagues through OneFootball’s pay-per-view and season pass options. Live games will be streamed co-exclusively on the OneFootball platform, accessible via mobile and connected TV apps and the website. In addition to live matches, subscribers can enjoy highlights and short-form content.

Launched in 2019 to address dark broadcast markets, the Bundesliga Pass aims to enhance the global visibility of Bundesliga content. DFL chief executive Marc Lenz emphasised the importance of adapting to changing media consumption habits, making this partnership a strategic initiative for reaching football fans worldwide. Peer Naubert, Bundesliga International’s chief marketing officer, highlighted the goal of being fan-centric, providing easier ways for supporters to engage with their favourite teams.

OneFootball has previously collaborated with the DFL, streaming Bundesliga games in Brazil since the 2020/21 season. Patrick Fischer, OneFootball’s CEO, expressed enthusiasm for this partnership, noting their commitment to offering fans an inclusive viewing experience tailored to their preferences. These markets represent exciting growth opportunities with Vietnam’s digital culture and South Africa’s passion for football.
