Cartoon Network Africa has announced that “The Lembwas” is the newest addition to the lineup, set to premiere on DStv on January 18, 2025. This original live-action comedy, filmed in South Africa, promises to deliver laughter and joy to your screens.

With 13 episodes filled with outrageous escapades and unexpected twists, “The Lembwas” is all set to make your weekends more entertaining. Prepare for a show that guarantees plenty of humour and excitement, making it impossible to stick to your usual Saturday plans!

At the centre of the chaos are Taps and Garcia, two teenage brothers whose antics bring the family to life. Taps thrives on adventure, while Garcia is the brainy inventor whose science experiments often take a wacky turn. Expect everything from accidental teleportation to encounters with bizarre interdimensional cockroaches.

Mama, the stylish matriarch, keeps the family running while managing the delightful chaos around her. Uncle Zeke, who claims to have been a rap star in Korea, adds lovable mischief to the mix, and Gogo, the quietly mischievous grandmother, is never short on surprises. Let’s not forget Roach, a sassy cockroach who became part of the family after a scientific mishap by Garcia.

Andre Lembwa, the comedic mastermind who brings every character to life, shares, “We’ve crafted something unique with ‘The Lembwas.’ It blends the spontaneity of live-action with the whimsical charm of animation. And it’s proudly South African, packed with local culture!”

Born in Kinshasa, DRC, and later relocating to South Africa, Lembwa’s incredible skill in impersonation spans many nationalities. His ability to embody diverse accents and characters adds an authentic touch to “The Lembwas,” showcasing the rich multicultural essence of South Africa. He expresses his enthusiasm, stating, “This journey in creating these characters has been phenomenal. Each character reflects a part of my upbringing in this vibrant country, and I’m eager for audiences to join us on this hilarious adventure!”

Ana Gonzalez, VP of Kids Content for Southern Europe, APAC, and Africa, shares her excitement: “We’re thrilled to introduce ‘The Lembwas’ to African audiences. It celebrates family, humour, and the joy of the unexpected. With a local cast and crew, this show is a must-watch packed with laughter!”

Filmed in the lively neighbourhood of Brooklyn, Cape Town, “The Lembwas” takes on a distinctly local flavour, thanks to creator Howard Fyvie and his production company, High Fyvie. With nearly two decades of experience creating engaging content, Fyvie sees “The Lembwas” as a project that resonates with universal themes while embracing its South African roots. He notes, “This show is unlike anything else, combining unique sensibilities and comedy. We hope the audience finds the same love for this family that we have!”
