Celebrating Global TV Excellence – Highlights From The 52nd International Emmy® Awards

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences celebrated the 52nd International Emmy® Awards in New York City, honouring exceptional television creators and performers from ten different countries. The event, which brought together television professionals from across the globe, was hosted by stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das.

During the gala, the prestigious Founders Emmy® was awarded to David E. Kelley, the renowned writer and producer behind beloved series such as Ally McBeal, L.A. Law, and Big Little Lies. The award was presented by Michael Pressman, Co-Executive Producer of Kelley’s shows Picket Fences and Chicago Hope.

The Directorate Award recognized Sidonie Dumas, the CEO of Gaumont, presented by actor and producer Omar Sy, known for his leading role in the acclaimed series Lupin.

In a heartfelt statement, Bruce L. Paisner, President and CEO of the International Academy, remarked, “In these turbulent times, television is definitely an art form that brings people from around the world together—no matter their culture or language.” He expressed pride in honouring the exceptional programming and performances showcased during the evening.

Alongside the two special awards, 14 Emmy® awards were distributed to recognize notable achievements in international television.

The winners in various categories included:

-Arts Programming: Pianoforte, (Poland) – This documentary offers an intimate look at young pianists competing in the International Chopin Piano Competition, showcasing their emotional journeys alongside Chopin’s music.

-Best Performance by an Actor: Timothy Spall in The Sixth Commandment (United Kingdom) – Spall portrays a charismatic teacher grappling with his identity and faith while guiding his students through their own struggles.

-Best Performance by an Actress: Aokbab-Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying in Hunger (Thailand) – The film highlights a young street-food cook pushing her limits under the guidance of a formidable chef.

-Comedy: División Palermo, (Argentina) – This series follows a quirky civilian patrol team that gets entangled in a dangerous drug trafficking operation.

-Documentary: Otto Baxter: Not a F***ing Horror Story (United Kingdom) – This feature chronicles the journey of Otto, who has Down Syndrome, as he creates an allegorical horror film based on his life experiences.

-Drama Series: Les Gouttes de Dieu [Drops of God], (France) – A gripping tale of inheritance where Camille must prove her worth against her father’s protégé to claim his prized wine collection.

-Non-Scripted Entertainment: Restaurant Misverstand – Season 2 [The Restaurant That Makes Mistakes], (Belgium) – This social experiment features a restaurant run by individuals with dementia, challenging societal perceptions and exploring the impact of work on identity.

-Short-Form Series: Punt de no Retorn [Point of no Return], (Spain) – This documentary series delves into crucial moments in humanity’s journey.
