(Over-the-Top) platforms are bracing for another technological disruption that promises to reshape digital content creation, distribution, and consumption. With Africa’s OTT market expanding unprecedentedly, platform providers are looking for new ways to stay ahead of these changes.

At the upcoming OTT Streaming Summit – Africa 2025, industry leaders, innovators, and stakeholders will gather from February 18–19, 2025, at The Capital 15 On Orange in Cape Town, South Africa, to discuss key strategies and technological advancements that will help future-proof OTT platforms in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

AI and ML have been foundational to OTT platforms’ recommendation engines, but the next frontier is hyper-personalization, where AI can predict user preferences with unprecedented precision. These technologies can analyze vast data sets in real-time, tracking viewing patterns, behaviour, and emotional responses to content. AI-driven personalization is crucial to enhancing user engagement and satisfaction, which is key to retaining subscribers in a competitive market.

Mr. Benjamin Pius, CEO of Broadcast Media Africa, expressed, “The OTT industry in Africa is at a critical juncture. Technological advancements present not only challenges but also remarkable opportunities to redefine content delivery on the continent. At this summit, we aim to address these emerging technologies and empower OTT platforms to innovate in ways that are both forward-thinking and uniquely suited to Africa’s diverse digital landscape.”

During the summit, experts will explore how OTT platforms can best leverage AI advancements to tailor content recommendations, improve search capabilities, and streamline user experiences. Platforms investing in this technology will gain a significant edge, offering experiences that resonate on an individual level, increasing engagement and reducing churn.
