During Mip Africa in Cape Town, South Africa, Netflix Africa unveiled its plans to release a South African adaptation of the Spanish reality show “Love Never Lies” on November 29, titled “Love Never Lies: South Africa”. The show will feature six couples striving to maintain honesty and pass eye-scanner lie-detector tests to compete for a cash prize.

Ben Amadasun, Netflix’s VP for the Middle East and Africa expressed the company’s dedication to showcasing South African and Nigerian content across various formats and genres for both African and global audiences.

Additionally, Netflix announced a slate of South African films, including the upcoming local drama series “Blood Legacy” from Gambit Films, set to premiere on September 20. The series boasts a talented cast, including Xolile Tshabalala, Treasure Nkosi, Mike Ndlangamandla, Sello Maake ka-Ncube, Pallance Dladla, Wiseman Zitha, and Unathi Mkhize.

Furthermore, Netflix’s future South African films encompass “Happiness Is…” set to release on October 18, continuing the story from “Happiness is a Four-Letter Word” and “Happiness Ever After”, and “Umjolo”,” a four-part anthology of feature films under the same banner. The first film premieres on November 8, and subsequent films will follow monthly until February 2025.

Another film, “Disaster Holiday”, directed by Rethabile Ramaphakela, is slated for a December 13 release, just in time for the Christmas period.

According to Amadasun, Netflix is thrilled to strengthen its partnerships with production companies in South Africa and showcase diverse and authentic local stories to entertain local and global audiences.

“We have seen South African stories not only loved locally but also found a fandom in many countries around the world. This is only a small taste of what’s to come next on Netflix as we continue our work to bring local South African and international stories to entertain our 278 million members worldwide,” expressed Amadasun.
