South Africa: Nicola van Niekerk Is Acting Content Boss At Showmax

A A

Broadcast Media Africa has learnt that Nicola van Niekerk, M-Net’s executive responsible for premium content and co-productions, has now been made the acting executive overseeing content for MultiChoice’s streamer Showmax.

The widely respected Nicola van Niekerk has been M-Net’s head of premium content and co-productions for a year since July 2023, after she was promoted from the senior manager for scripted content and factual entertainment position she held for the preceding five years, which she held until October 2018.

It’s unclear when Nicola van Niekerk became acting head of content at Showmax, but it happened very recently. It’s also unclear whether Nicola van Niekerk continues to oversee M-Net premium content

Nicola van Niekerk started at M-Net in 2012 as a commissioning editor for kykNET (DStv 144) and quickly rose the executive ladder at the Randburg-based pay-TV operator.

As Showmax’s acting content boss, Nicola van Niekerk replaces Candice Fangueiro, who left MultiChoice in October 2022 after seven years as Showmax’s content boss.

Candice Fangueiro joined Amazon Studios and Amazon Prime Video two years ago to head up the global streamer’s now-destroyed plans to ramp up local content creation and commissioning in South Africa and across sub-Saharan Africa, which abruptly came to a halt earlier this year.
