Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA) has announced the successful conclusion of the operational phase of Nexsat-1, Egypt’s first Earth observation satellite. This satellite, developed through a collaboration with the German firm BST, marks a significant leap in Egypt’s space technology capabilities.

Over the last two years, the Nexsat-1 project has enhanced Egyptian expertise in system engineering, software development, satellite assembly and operational management.

The collaboration between the Egyptian team and BST led to the creation of comprehensive onboard software, attitude control algorithms and ground control station (GCS) software, all of which contributed to the satellite’s successful commissioning and independent operation.

Nexsat-1 marks a significant milestone in Egypt’s space programme, demonstrating the nation’s commitment to innovation, international cooperation, and technological advancement. The satellite’s successful deployment underscores Egypt’s expanding capabilities in space technology and sets the stage for future developments.

EgSA released the first image that Nexsat-1’s High-Performance Onboard Computer (HPOBC) captured to celebrate this achievement. This image, created using software developed by the Egyptian team, showcases the two years of hard work and collaboration. EgSA thanks BST and the Egyptian commissioning team for their vital contributions to this success.
