Dekanalog, an American distribution company, has announced that three Nigerian movies – Mami Wata, The Lost Okoroshi, and Green White Green – will be available on various streaming platforms in the US.
Mami Wata, a black and white feature film directed by CJ Obasi, will be available on Prime Video, Apple TV, and Metrograph at Home. On the other hand, The Lost Okoroshi and Green White Green will be streamed on Apple TV.
Mami Wata takes place in the oceanside village of Iyi, where Mama Efe acts as an intermediary between the people and the all-powerful water deity Mami Wata. The movie revolves around a conflict when a young boy is lost to a virus, and a mysterious rebel deserter named Jasper arrives in the village.
The Lost Okoroshi is a movie by Abba T. Makama that follows the story of Raymond, a layabout who is transformed into a purple spirit after being haunted by a traditional Okoroshi masquerade in his dreams. The movie depicts Raymond’s struggle to navigate Lagos in his new form.
Green White Green, also directed by Makama, sheds light on the lives of three teenagers waiting endlessly for university. During this hiatus, they engage in various shenanigans, such as Uzzie trying to become an artist, Segun keeping a bag packed for an impending trip to New York, and the other attempting to gain his father’s respect.
These movies offer a unique perspective on different aspects of life in Nigeria and are now available for streaming in the US on various platforms.
