Convener of the forthcoming Broadcast And Digital Media Convention – East Africa, to be held on 7th – 8th May 2024 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, have disclosed that the gathering will seek to understand the burgeoning market of OTT content streaming and VOD services in Ethiopia and East Africa.

In recent years, the landscape of entertainment consumption has undergone a seismic shift globally, and East Africa is no exception. With the proliferation of smartphones and improving internet connectivity, over-the-top (OTT) content streaming and video-on-demand (VOD) services have surged in popularity across the region.

Commenting on this, Ms Tigist Kebede, Operations Director at Habeshaview and event co-convener said, “The rise of OTT content streaming and video-on-demand services offers consumers unprecedented access to a diverse array of content. With the convergence of technology, changing consumer preferences, and a burgeoning digital economy, the future looks promising on the continent. As the market continues to evolve, stakeholders must adapt to emerging trends, harnessing the power of localisation, affordability, and accessibility to drive growth and innovation in the years to come.”

The industry convention will explore cutting-edge advancements and innovative practices in digital broadcasting and content publishing, helping assess the multiple roles and responsibilities that will allow them to effectively handle and manage their changing role in society as digital media becomes a reality across the region.
