Voice of America has recently launched its second FM radio station in Rwanda. The new station, broadcasting on 93.3 FM, is aimed at Rwanda’s Western Province, which has an average population of three million people. In addition to serving the large refugee camp in Kiziba, the station will provide programming tailored to the diverse ethnic groups in Rwanda. This includes translations in Kirundi, French, Swahili, and English, as well as content in the majority-spoken Kinyarwanda language.
John Lippman, VOA’s Acting Director, expressed his pleasure in expanding the station’s reach, stating, “We are pleased to begin broadcasting directly to the Karongi district of Rwanda. Our new radio station will expand our efforts to provide independent journalism and diverse perspectives, in many languages, to a fast-growing country.”
VOA operates over 50 FM stations across Africa, Asia, and Europe. With a weekly global audience of more than 354 million people in 48 languages in nearly 100 countries, VOA reaches audiences via radio, television, web, and mobile media. Their network comprises more than 3,500 affiliates worldwide.
