National Association Of Broadcasters Of South Africa Gets New Leadership

July 21, 2024
Reading Time: 2 mins read
A A

Nick Grubb, the CEO of Kagiso Media Radio, has been elected as the new chairperson of South Africa’s National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) for the 2024/2025 term. Along with him, Philly Moilwa, the head of policy and regulatory affairs at SABC, was elected deputy chairperson.

The NAB’s executive committee is responsible for making decisions and representing various players in the regulated broadcast sector in South Africa. The chairperson and deputy chairperson serve for a term of two years, while the leadership of its four standing committees is elected annually by its committee members.

Nadia Bulbulbia, the NAB’s executive director, expressed her gratitude towards the outgoing chairperson, Thabo Makenete (formerly MultiChoice), for his leadership over the past two years. She also stated that the NAB has been fortunate to be led by passionate and committed professionals with vast industry knowledge and expertise.

Nick Grubb acknowledged the critical role played by the NAB in uniting the industry to navigate the regulatory landscape and develop structures that support self-regulation and skills development. He further added that the NAB has been promoting TV and radio to all of its stakeholders and building out industry social investment mechanisms.

The NAB has four standing committees – the Commercial Radio Committee, the TV Committee, the Technical Committee, and the Community Radio Committee. These committees manage the industry’s various aspects and interests, including self-regulation and skills development. In addition, the NAB has co-opted exco members Philippa Rafferty (eMedia) and Alfie Jay (Algoa FM) to further strengthen its leadership team.
