MultiChoice And SuperSport Ends Sponsorship Of SA’s Premier Soccer League – Report

July 21, 2024

A A

MultiChoice and SuperSport have abruptly ended their sponsorship of the PSL’s DStv Premiership more than a year before its scheduled conclusion in September 2025, causing financial uncertainty for the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

The companies signed a five-year deal in September 2020 to sponsor the DStv Premiership, stepping in after ABSA Bank terminated its 13-year sponsorship. However, MultiChoice’s financial difficulties, including a challenging fiscal year ending in March 2024, have led to this premature termination.

Efforts are underway to find a replacement sponsor, with reports suggesting that Betway, an online gambling company, is a leading contender. The 2024/2025 Premier Soccer League season is still set to commence in August.

Irvin Khoza, the PSL chairperson, said they are “in advanced talks” to find a replacement sponsor for the premiership. The online gambling company Betway is the frontrunner.

The 2024/2025 Premier Soccer League season is set to start in August.
