The Broadcast And Digital Media Convention – West Africa 2024 commenced with a dynamic and enlightening first day at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja – Nigeria. Hosted by the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) and collocated with the 1st Annual National Conference of the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters, the event brought together industry leaders, professionals, and stakeholders from the region to deliberate on the future of broadcasting and digital media in West Africa.

The day commenced with a grand opening ceremony graced by esteemed dignitaries, notably Dr. Yemisi Bamgbose, National Director of SNB, who delivered the keynote address. Dr Bamgbose’s speech underscored the necessity of embracing digital transformation to stay abreast of global trends, urging broadcasters to harness technology for improved content delivery and audience engagement.

The morning sessions featured a series of keynote speeches from Comrade Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos, Chairman of BON and the DG of NTA, who set the stage for discussions on digital innovation. He emphasised the need for broadcasters to adopt new technologies and platforms, focusing on the transition to digital terrestrial television (DTT) and the opportunities it presents for content creators and distributors. The session underscored the importance of policy frameworks that support the digital economy while ensuring fair competition and inclusivity.

The day also provided ample opportunities for networking, with delegates connecting during breaks and at the exhibition area, where leading technology providers showcased the latest innovations in broadcast and digital media. The exhibition featured cutting-edge equipment, software solutions, and services, offering attendees a glimpse into the future of broadcasting.

The first day of the Broadcast And Digital Media Convention – West Africa 2024 set a high standard for the rest of the event. With a focus on innovation, collaboration, and the future of broadcasting in a digital world, the convention has already sparked meaningful conversations and fostered new connections.
