SES Secures Multi-Year JioStar Channel Distribution Deal On IS-20

September 22, 2026

SES has signed a multi-year agreement with JioStar to distribute the Indian media company’s channels via the IS-20 satellite, supporting cable, DTH and broadcast networks across India and South Asia.

SES media vertical president Deepak Mathur and JioStar head of technology and media operations Rajat Nigam highlighted the agreement as part of the companies’ ongoing distribution relationship.

For Africa, however, the significance lies in the satellite capacity rather than JioStar’s distribution footprint. SES’s IS-20 satellite covers Europe, the Middle East and Africa, making capacity on the platform relevant to broadcasters, DTH operators and channel distributors using the same satellite fleet.

The deal also highlights the continued role of traditional satellite video capacity in SES’s media business. While SES is expanding its multi-orbit connectivity strategy, long-term agreements for conventional broadcast capacity remain an important part of its business and the wider satellite distribution ecosystem.

For African platforms, the key takeaway is that continued demand for established video distribution capacity could influence how satellite resources are allocated across a footprint that includes the continent.
