Senegal has taken another step toward expanding digital radio broadcasting after formally handing over its Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB+) infrastructure to TDS SA at the end of a pilot phase led by the country’s telecommunications and postal regulator.
The handover took place on 10 September 2026, with the Autorité de Régulation des Télécommunications et des Postes (ARTP) formally transferring responsibility for the infrastructure to TDS SA after the successful completion of the pilot programme.
ARTP Director General Dahirou Thiam said the pilot phase was the result of extensive technical work aimed at stabilising and optimising the digital broadcasting infrastructure. A maintenance contract also supports the transition and is designed to ensure the network’s continued operation and reliability.
The move to DAB+ is expected to enhance Senegal’s radio broadcasting landscape by delivering improved audio quality, wider coverage and greater capacity for a broader range of radio services and programming.
DAB+ will also enable more efficient use of the radio-frequency spectrum through digital multiplexing, allowing multiple radio services to share a single transmission platform and better use available frequency resources.
The infrastructure handover marks the transition from pilot deployment to a new operational phase for Senegal’s digital radio ecosystem, laying the groundwork for the wider adoption and development of DAB+ services across the country.
