‘The Other Side of the Bridge’ is an upcoming Nigerian drama that artfully weaves together sports, romance, and social commentary. Scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release on April 17, 2026, it stands out as one of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year, offering a thought-provoking look at identity, class, and survival in contemporary Lagos.
Set against the backdrop of Nigeria’s bustling yet divided metropolis, the film follows the intertwined stories of two boxers who come together for a high-stakes tournament that draws national attention. With a runtime of 1 hour and 56 minutes, it features dialogue in both English and Nigerian Pidgin, lending an authentic cultural feel to its narrative.
Central to the film are Femi, the affluent son of a former government minister, and Farouk, a gritty fighter moulded by his environment. As they battle for dominance within a fiercely competitive boxing circuit, their rivalry symbolises a broader societal divide characterised by class, opportunity, and ambition. Beyond the ring’s adrenaline, ‘The Other Side of the Bridge’ dives into profound themes of love, loyalty, and self-identity, exploring what it means to carve out one’s place in a rapidly changing urban landscape.
The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Tobi Bakre, Demi Banwo, Ireti Doyle, Olarotimi Fakunle, Teniola Aladese, Gbubemi Ejeye, Mike Afolarin, Femi Branch, William Benson, and Taye Arimoro. Tamara Aihie and Emil Garuba pen the screenplay.
Produced by Tolu’ LordTanner’ Awobiyi, Demi Banwo, and Adesegun Adetoro, with both Adetoro and Banwo also serving as executive producers, the film is brought to life through the collaboration of Depth & Optics Productions, Ogidi Studios, and Lord Tanner Studios.
This project is supported by CcHUB Creative, in association with Africa No Filter, and backed by the Gates Foundation, demonstrating a shared vision to promote impactful African storytelling that resonates globally.
Before its official release, the film has already garnered recognition, being selected for screening at AFRIFF 2024, further solidifying its status as a notable entry within contemporary Nollywood.
Producer Demi Banwo emphasises the film’s relevance, stating: “‘The Other Side of the Bridge’ captures the struggles of a generation grappling with widening class disparities and economic challenges while striving for self-definition in modern Nigeria. By using boxing as a metaphor for survival, ambition, and choice, the film reflects the daily battles young people face as they navigate whether to conform, resist, or fight for an independent future.”
Set to be distributed nationwide by FilmOne, ‘The Other Side of the Bridge’ is poised to make a significant mark at the box office and ignite impactful discussions about identity, opportunity, and resilience.
Don’t miss its theatrical debut on April 17, 2026.
