Broadcast Media Africa (BMA) is proud to announce the upcoming 7th Edition of the Radio Broadcasting Convention – Africa 2026, a premier gathering dedicated to shaping the future of the audio landscape. This year, the convention officially embraces the forward-looking theme: “Intelligent Radio and Audio for Next Generation of Listeners.”

As the media industry undergoes a rapid digital transformation, the 2026 summit, taking place on 09 – 10 June 2026, in Johannesburg, South Africa, serves as a critical platform for public and commercial broadcasters, regulators, and technology pioneers to explore the intersection of traditional radio and the modern digital experience. The theme highlights a strategic shift toward “intelligent” solutions—leveraging data, automation, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create hyper-personalised and interactive content that resonates with younger, tech-savvy demographics.

“Radio is no longer just a broadcast medium; it is a sophisticated, data-driven audio experience,” said Benjamin Pius, CEO of Broadcast Media Africa. “By focusing on ‘Intelligent Radio,’ we are challenging the industry to move beyond legacy formats and embrace the innovations required to capture and retain the next generation of listeners who demand flexibility, quality, and relevance across all platforms.”

The convention programme will dive into the practical applications of this theme, featuring discussions on the implementation of Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB+), the rise of synthetic voice technology, and the monetisation of multi-platform audio content. Attendees will examine how smart devices and connected cars are changing consumption habits and how African broadcasters can use these “intelligent” tools to preserve local narratives while competing on a global stage.

Beyond the technical sessions, the event provides an essential space for B2B networking and policy dialogue. Leaders from across the continent will collaborate on frameworks that support innovation while ensuring the industry remains a vital public service. The convention aims to equip delegates with actionable strategies to transition from traditional broadcasting to a holistic audio ecosystem that serves the diverse needs of tomorrow’s audience.
