Equinix Announces New Data Centre In Nigeria

Equinix is set to launch its third data centre in Lagos, Nigeria, LG3, as part of an ambitious US$100 million investment to transform the continent’s digital infrastructure over the next two years.

This new facility follows the company’s entry into the African market through its acquisition of MainOne, which established the LG1 and LG2 centres and has operations in both Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. The LG3 data centre is scheduled to commence operations in the first quarter of 2026.

Equinix plans to enhance global connectivity to West Africa through its Equinix Fabric platform, providing essential infrastructure for Nigeria. This initiative is designed to support local businesses in their growth while attracting international companies to Nigeria as it develops into a strategically significant hub for global connectivity.

The addition of LG3 will also integrate Equinix Fabric into the local metro area, allowing firms to securely connect their physical and virtual infrastructures to various cloud service providers, partners, and other businesses globally across the Equinix network.

Wole Abu, the managing director for West Africa at Equinix, stated, “LG3 represents a pivotal moment in Equinix’s dedication to bridging the digital divide in Africa. As Lagos stands as a hub of talent, innovation, and global connectivity, this facility will enhance access to pivotal technologies, including cloud services, artificial intelligence, and the next generation of startups.”
