Botswana: MultiChoice Unveils Three New Locally-Produced Films Set To Premiere On Mzansi Magic This November

MultiChoice Botswana has recently announced the addition of three locally-produced films to Mzansi Magic this November: Route 2, Abashwe, and The Prophet.

Route 2, created by filmmaker Afentse Fenny Lekolwane, takes audiences on an emotional journey through the picturesque hills of Botswana. It is described as “a beautifully absurd and visually striking tale of survival, loneliness, and the unpredictable magic of shared journeys.” The film emphasises how human connections can blossom from life’s unexpected twists, highlighting themes of rediscovery, resilience, and the profound meaning found in the journey itself.

The Prophet, directed by Tumelo Chaba, delves into complex themes such as betrayal, vengeance, and redemption. The story follows Jacob, a man driven to create a fraudulent prophetic ministry after his father’s tragic loss of a million-pula property to a deceitful church. This series of events leads to the untimely death of both his parents, pushing Jacob toward revenge. However, he finds himself at a moral crossroads when unexpected love enters his life, forcing him to choose between forgiveness and revenge. The Prophet offers a raw exploration of how trauma shapes belief and identity.

Abashwe, the third film, tells the story of a hardened single mother who has lost faith in love. Scarred by past disappointments, she remains wary even after meeting a charming young executive who seems genuinely interested in her life.

Stephanie Pillay, Managing Director of MultiChoice Botswana, expressed pride in showcasing Botswana’s creative talent on a prominent entertainment platform: “We are incredibly proud to see Botswana’s creative talent taking centre stage on one of Africa’s most celebrated entertainment platforms. At MultiChoice Botswana, we believe in the power of local stories that reflect the culture, aspirations, and identity of Batswana. Through platforms like Mzansi Magic, we are amplifying local voices, allowing them to be seen and celebrated across the continent.”
