Angola Cables Partners With MEO For Enhanced Data Centre Connectivity

June 24, 2025

Angola Cables has taken a significant step towards enhancing intercontinental data connectivity in Africa by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MEO Wholesale Solutions. This agreement aims to bolster the interconnection of their data centre networks and broaden the range of telecommunications services offered internationally.

The partnership lays the groundwork for seamless interconnectivity between the MEO LDV Data Center in Portugal and the AngoNAP Fortaleza Data Center in Brazil, utilising a submarine fibre optic connection. This collaboration focuses on improving infrastructure by developing shared solutions for businesses and global operators. It encompasses submarine cables, IP connectivity, and international Point-to-Point (Pop2Pop) interconnection networks, fostering a robust digital ecosystem that bridges Portugal, Brazil, Africa, and the USA.

Samuel Carvalho, Chief Marketing Officer at Angola Cables, emphasised that this collaboration will create the first business super corridor linking Portugal and Brazil. With the submarine cable network enabling efficient data transmission across the Atlantic, this initiative aims to streamline digital traffic from Europe, particularly leveraging Portugal as a strategic entry and exit point for services and content, especially in Portuguese.

Ana Carla Sousa, Director of MEO Wholesale Solutions, described the partnership as pivotal in enhancing MEO’s international connectivity, positioning Portugal as a premier digital hub. Through this alliance, MEO’s customers will access an extensive multi-connected network, facilitating direct connections from Lisbon to 66 data centres worldwide via Angola Cables’ infrastructure. Moreover, they will also benefit from connectivity to over 930 data centres and 500 cloud connection points through a high-performance virtual network.

Together, Angola Cables and MEO are set to transform Africa’s digital landscape, paving the way for enhanced communication and collaboration on a global scale.
