Film And TV Merge At Shangai (China) Mega Market Event

Shanghai has just raised the bar for entertainment markets with its brand-new International Film & TV Market, a five-day event that merges the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) and the Shanghai TV Festival (STVF) into a single powerhouse experience.

Held at the grand Shanghai Exhibition Centre, this event blends high-level industry networking with immersive public showcases. Industry players strike deals, attend forums, and explore cutting-edge content zones. Outside, fans engage with storytelling through interactive exhibits such as the nostalgic TVB showcase and the “I Am What I Am” film experience.

According to Chen Guo, the managing director of the organising body, the merger reflects a new era in which film and television content, technology, and talent are fully intertwined. The goal? To spark collaboration, unlock funding, and build a thriving ecosystem where bold ideas and storytellers from all corners connect and create.

The event is also a significant draw for international participants. With more than 50 overseas exhibitors in attendance, the market features a dedicated International Zone for global deal-making. Last year’s market highlights included over 100 business negotiations led by a South Korean delegation featuring KBS, MBC, SBS, and CJ ENM.

Forget the old separation between film and television – this market is about stories, impact, and innovation, regardless of the medium. Shanghai’s new event aims to become a global hub for creative exchange by focusing on IP, cross-sector partnerships, and real-world audience feedback.

As Chen puts it: “We’re not just running a market. We’re building a new cultural landmark for Shanghai – and the world.”
