Event: Convergence Of Broadcast And Telco Services – Unlocking New Frontier In Africa’s Marketplace

The rapid transformation of the digital landscape in East Africa has brought about a seamless integration of broadcasting and telecom services. This convergence is shaping the future of media consumption, offering audiences new ways to access content while presenting significant opportunities and challenges for industry stakeholders.

At the Broadcast and Digital Media Convention – East Africa 2025, taking place from 27 – 28 May 2025 in Kampala, Uganda, industry leaders, policymakers, and technology providers will gather to examine how the intersection of broadcasting and telecommunications is redefining content delivery, monetisation, and audience engagement. The event is hosted by Uganda’s Communications Commission (UCC) and co-convened by Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) and Broadcast Media Africa (BMA).

The increasing adoption of internet-based content distribution has blurred the traditional boundaries between telecoms and broadcasting. Innovations such as Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms, IPTV, and mobile streaming services have created an ecosystem where telecom networks serve as the backbone for content delivery.

Speaking ahead of the Broadcast and Digital Media Convention – East Africa 2025, Mr Benjamin Pius, CEO of Broadcast Media Africa, highlighted the critical importance of industry collaboration in navigating this digital convergence. He remarked, “The seamless integration of broadcasting and telecoms is no longer a prospect—it is happening now. For broadcasters, telecom operators, and regulators, this is the moment to align strategies, develop sustainable business models, and create an enabling environment for digital media growth in East Africa. At this year’s convention, we look forward to robust discussions on harnessing this convergence’s potential to enhance service delivery and expand digital inclusion across the region.”

With East Africa at a pivotal moment in its digital transition, integrating broadcasting and telecom services promises to drive greater connectivity, economic growth, and an enhanced content experience for audiences across the region.
