SuperSport To Conclude 18-Year Broadcasting Rights Agreement With FAZ For Zambia Super League

SuperSport and the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) have announced that SuperSport will not renew its broadcast rights agreement for the Zambia Super League (also known as the MTN Super League) once the season concludes in May 2025.

This partnership, which has lasted for 18 years since 2007, has allowed SuperSport to broadcast Zambia’s premier club football league across its platforms. Throughout this time, SuperSport has invested significantly in the league and the broader football community, enhancing local talent and the capacity of Zambia’s live sports broadcasting industry, predominantly employing Zambian production teams.

SuperSport’s commitment has helped elevate Zambian club football during a period marked by notable successes, including Zambia winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 2012. The league received substantial visibility through DStv and GOtv, providing local players with scouting and recognition opportunities.

SuperSport CEO Rendani Ramovha expressed pride in the partnership, emphasising the broadcaster’s investment in enhancing Zambian and African football. He stated, “SuperSport remains Africa’s largest broadcaster, and we are proud of our contributions to Zambian football and the improvement of live sports broadcasting within the country. Reflecting on our journey since 2007, we believe we are departing the league in a much better position.”

FAZ President Andrew Kamanga acknowledged SuperSport’s role in developing football in Zambia, noting that evolving global dynamics and local factors like increasing costs and load-shedding have influenced MultiChoice and SuperSport’s business decisions.

Kamanga remarked, “During our time as partners, Zambian football and the broadcast industry have seen remarkable growth. While our 18-year partnership will conclude at the end of the current season, we appreciate the professionalism with which both organisations have managed the process.”

MultiChoice will continue operating in Zambia, delivering exceptional local and international entertainment and sports content via the DStv, GOtv, and Showmax platforms.

At this time, SuperSport has opted not to provide further comments on the matter.
