CAF Launches Broadcast Academy To Elevate Broadcasting Standards – Report

According to industry reports, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched the CAF Broadcast Academy and the TV Director’s Programme in Johannesburg, South Africa, to improve the quality of football broadcasting across Africa.

The initiative aligns with CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe’s vision of making African football globally competitive.

With over 1.4 billion TV viewers and 2.2 billion digital streams for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, CAF aims to improve broadcast standards to attract even more global attention.

The CAF Broadcast Academy will train TV directors, camera people, producers, commentators, and other professionals over the next two years. The goal is to ensure all 54 CAF Member Associations produce world-class football broadcasts.

The first training workshop for English-speaking countries took place in Johannesburg. 18 TV directors from 16 nations gathered at the SuperSport studios for the event.

South African Football Association (SAFA) President Dr. Danny Jordaan attended the certification ceremony. A similar workshop for French-speaking countries is scheduled for April.

The training is being led by HBS/FIFA World Cup Director Jamie Oakfield, with support from CAF’s broadcast partners, including beIN Sport, Canal+, and SuperSport.

CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba said: “The CAF Broadcast Academy is a practical step to improve TV production quality. Our President, Dr Motsepe, wants African football to be among the best in the world, and high-quality broadcasts are key to that goal.”

CAF’s Luxolo September added: “This project is not just about today but the future. African football broadcasting will never be the same again.”

CAF has partnered with HBS to design the programme, ensuring that African football receives the global recognition it deserves.
