MTN Congo has made history by becoming the first telecommunications company in Central Africa to introduce a 5G network, marking a significant milestone in the continent’s technological advancement.

The company announced the launch of its 5G network, emphasising its potential to bring about a real digital revolution that will positively impact the daily lives of the Congolese people. According to MTN Congo, this technological leap presents an unprecedented opportunity to drive the development and expansion of businesses in the region.

With 5G technology set to integrate with Artificial Intelligence and other advanced technologies, industry analysts foresee a transformative effect on African economies, paving the way for long-term growth and development across the continent.

Todd Ashton, the Vice President and Head of South and East Africa at Ericsson, highlighted the Ericsson Mobility Report for June 2024. The report projects that 5G subscriptions in Sub-Saharan Africa are expected to reach 28% by 2029, making it the second-largest percentage of subscriptions in the region.

This development follows a series of similar unveilings by telecommunications companies across Africa. Ericsson has partnered with e& in Egypt to roll out 5G in North Africa, while Airtel Nigeria and MTN Nigeria have introduced their 5G networks in West Africa. In East Africa, Airtel Kenya and MTN Uganda joined the 5G revolution.
