The Africa Channel Hosts International Emmy Semi-Final Judging In Johannesburg

The Africa Channel (TAC), an entertainment company focused on showcasing African stories and creative talent, has hosted a Semi-Final Round of Judging for the International Emmy Awards in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The judging session was hosted by TAC Chief Operating Officer Narendra Reddy and marks the sixth time the company has hosted an International Emmy Semi-Final Round. Television professionals and industry jurors from across Africa participated in the session, evaluating entries for this year’s awards.

The Johannesburg gathering also provided an opportunity for African television executives and creative professionals to engage with the international awards process and contribute directly to the evaluation of television content competing on a global stage.

Following the judging, TAC hosted a reception bringing together members of the jury, media executives and industry talent from South Africa and elsewhere. Attendees included S’dumo Mtshali, known for The Polygamist on Netflix, alongside representatives from e-media holdings, Canal+, MultiChoice and leading production companies.

Reddy said greater participation by African executives and creatives in international industry structures is important to ensuring that African perspectives have a stronger presence in global television.

“It is imperative for African entertainment executives and creative talent to not only be more visible within industry circles, but to be active participants in both curating and shaping global media narratives,” Reddy said.

He added that TAC’s ongoing partnership with the International Television Academy is intended to bring industry stakeholders together while raising awareness of Africa’s role within the global television ecosystem. TAC also acknowledged Primedia for supporting the initiative.

The judging event comes as African television continues to expand its international footprint, with local productions, talent and formats increasingly reaching audiences and industry markets beyond the continent.

TAC operates as an independent media company focused on African and Global Black Diaspora audiences. Its flagship Africa Channel is a linear television network available through pay-TV distributors across the United States, Canada and the Caribbean, offering original series, films, documentaries, current affairs, soaps and cultural programming.

The company also operates Demand Africa, a streaming platform, and TAC Studios, which focuses on content development, production and distribution.
