Airtel Malawi has reiterated its dedication to advancing the nation’s digital transformation by investing in cutting-edge telecommunications infrastructure, expanding digital services, and enhancing connectivity. This commitment comes on the heels of a visit from the newly established Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) board.

Recently, the MACRA board visited Airtel Malawi’s headquarters in Lilongwe as part of its efforts to engage with licensed telecommunications operators and gain insights into current developments affecting Malawi’s digital economy.

During the meeting, Airtel Malawi executives presented an overview of the company’s operations, its technological advancements, successes, and challenges. Key topics of discussion included network expansion, digital innovations, customer experience, and collaboration with regulators.

Aashish Dutt, Managing Director of Airtel Malawi, stated, “We value the strong and collaborative relationship we share with MACRA. As partners in Malawi’s digital journey, we are committed to investing in innovative technologies, expanding connectivity, and supporting the vision of a digitally inclusive and empowered nation by 2063.”

Airtel emphasised its ongoing investments in expanding its 5G network, projects aimed at improving rural connectivity, and enhancing digital services to increase access to digital platforms and stimulate economic growth.

According to Airtel, these investments align with the priorities outlined in the Malawi 2063 vision, which recognises digitalisation as a critical driver of socio-economic development, improved service delivery, and enhanced productivity across various sectors.

The MACRA board acknowledged that Airtel Malawi’s persistent investments in telecommunications infrastructure and digital services are instrumental in addressing the country’s digital divide. The board also highlighted the importance of ongoing collaboration between regulators and industry players to cultivate a secure, competitive, and innovative communications sector capable of meeting the rising demand for digital services.
