Ghana: Multimedia Group Ltd Secures Broadcasting Rights for FIFA World Cup 2026

The Multimedia Group Ltd (MGL) has secured the rights to broadcast the FIFA World Cup 2026 live on radio and television, starting Thursday, June 11, 2026. This agreement was made possible through Ghana’s official broadcasting consortium for the event.

Viewers can look forward to selected matches being aired live on Joy Prime, a key television partner licensed to broadcast the tournament in Ghana.

This exciting partnership follows an announcement from the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), which revealed that it has obtained exclusive terrestrial Free-To-Air broadcast rights for the FIFA World Cup 2026, with assistance from the Government of Ghana.

GBC stated that this initiative reflects the Government’s commitment to ensuring that “all Ghanaians have access to the world’s most prestigious football tournament,” allowing them to follow the Black Stars throughout the competition.

The GBC has established a National Broadcast Consortium to maximise national reach through a combined technical, marketing, and broadcasting framework.

Joy Prime and Adom TV, which are part of The Multimedia Group, have been officially licensed by FIFA through New World TV and GBC to air the World Cup matches.

Other stations in the broadcast consortium include GTV, GTV Sports+, GHOne TV, Agoo TV, Metro TV, Original TV, TV3, Onua TV, Max TV, Sporty TV, WoezorTV, and UTV.

JoySports, MGL’s sports division, promises extensive coverage of the tournament, featuring in-depth analysis, expert commentary, and engaging storytelling throughout the event.

A dedicated JoySports team will be stationed in the United States, Mexico, and Canada to deliver on-the-ground reporting from the host nations, providing viewers and listeners with real-time action.

The coverage will highlight some of Ghana’s top football experts, including former players, coaches, and respected analysts, who will engage in insightful discussions and provide tactical breakdowns before and after key matches.

The tournament is set to commence on June 11, with co-host nation Mexico competing against South Africa at 19:00 GMT. This matchup echoes the iconic opening game of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, where South Africa and Mexico played to a draw.

Another anticipated clash will see the United States take on Paraguay in the subsequent fixture.

Special attention will be dedicated to African nations in the tournament, featuring analysis and focus segments on the continent’s representatives.

Key fixtures involving African teams include Brazil vs Morocco, Côte d’Ivoire vs Ecuador, Spain vs Cape Verde, and France vs Senegal, the latter of which recalls their famous clash in the 2002 World Cup.

Ghana’s group-stage matches against Panama, England, and Croatia are also expected to generate significant interest among local audiences.

Joy Prime’s World Cup programming will merge live match coverage with dynamic studio discussions, catering to both passionate football enthusiasts and casual viewers alike.

To ensure fans don’t miss critical moments, selected matches will also be replayed throughout the tournament.

On radio, JoySports will deliver unmatched commentary with precise descriptions of the action, bringing the FIFA World Cup experience alive for listeners across Ghana.

Meanwhile, GBC cautions against unauthorised broadcasts of World Cup content in Ghana, stating, “Any unauthorised broadcast, re-broadcast, streaming, public exhibition, or commercial distribution of World Cup content within Ghana is strictly prohibited.”

The GBC emphasised that the Ghana TV Consortium will actively monitor all platforms, including digital and social media, during the tournament, warning that violators will face immediate legal action and penalties.

The GBC described the FIFA World Cup 2026 as “the most-watched sporting event globally,” highlighting that the tournament offers an extraordinary opportunity for brands to engage with millions of viewers in Ghana.

The corporation and the Ghana TV Consortium expressed their gratitude to the Government of Ghana and stakeholders for their support in making this historic global event accessible to Ghanaians.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place across the United States, Mexico, and Canada, with fans worldwide eager to witness what promises to be one of the greatest sporting spectacles in history.
