As artificial intelligence continues to reshape news production, content curation, and audience engagement, broadcasters are entering a new era of accountability—one in which they must not only use AI responsibly but also clearly explain how it works. This critical issue will be explored in depth during the upcoming webinar, “AI And Broadcast Compliance: What Players Must Know About Emerging Regulations,” taking place on Tuesday, 12 May 2026.

The rapid integration of AI into editorial workflows—ranging from automated news generation to algorithmic content recommendation—has raised urgent questions about transparency, fairness, and editorial accountability. Under these emerging rules, broadcasters deploying AI—especially in high-impact areas such as news dissemination, content moderation, and political information—may be required to clearly disclose when content is generated or influenced by AI, provide understandable explanations of how these systems make decisions, and ensure meaningful human oversight remains embedded in editorial processes.

These requirements are particularly critical in the media sector, where AI-driven decisions can shape public opinion, influence democratic processes, and impact societal trust. Transparency is no longer optional; it is fast becoming a legal obligation tied to the protection of fundamental rights such as freedom of expression, non-discrimination, and access to accurate information. The classification of certain AI applications as “high-risk” further heightens the stakes, requiring broadcasters to implement robust compliance measures, including documentation, auditability, and explainability mechanisms.

Despite the regulatory momentum, significant challenges remain. Industry experts continue to point to a widening gap between legal expectations and technical capabilities, particularly in translating complex algorithmic decision-making into explanations that are meaningful and accessible to audiences, regulators, and stakeholders alike.

The upcoming webinar will bring together legal experts, regulators, and broadcast industry leaders to unpack these complexities and provide practical guidance on navigating this evolving landscape.
