Roku’s Howdy Streaming Service Now Available On Amazon Prime Video

Roku’s Howdy streaming service has officially launched on Amazon Prime Video, marking a significant step as it expands beyond Roku’s ecosystem. Priced at just US$2.99 per month, Howdy offers Prime Video subscribers access to over 10,000 hours of entertainment, starting today.

Initially launched last summer exclusively on Roku, this expansion is a major milestone for Howdy. The service provides a vast library of movies and TV shows sourced from prominent entertainment partners, including Disney, Lionsgate, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros. Discovery, and FilmRise. Subscribers will find a diverse collection featuring films such as ‘A Haunting in Venice,’ ‘Sleepless in Seattle,’ ‘The Graduate,’ and beloved animated classics like ‘Ice Age.’

Roku’s approach with Howdy is clear: it aims to complement current streaming offerings rather than compete directly with heavyweights like Netflix or Disney+. Gil Fuchsberg, Roku’s president of Subscriptions, emphasises that the service prioritises accessibility. Users will need an Amazon Prime membership or a standalone Prime Video subscription to access Howdy, making it easy to sign up.

This affordable rate of US$2.99 not only positions Howdy as a competitive option for budget-conscious viewers and cord cutters but also challenges the traditional ad-supported streaming model seen with Netflix and Disney+. Ryan Pirozzi, who oversees Prime Video Channels in the U.S., described this partnership as a key moment to enhance access to premium content amid rising streaming costs.

Howdy’s content selection is diverse, featuring popular titles such as ‘Weeds,’ ‘Forensic Files,’ ‘The Great American Baking Show,’ ‘Nashville,’ and ‘Kids in the Hall.’ The range spans romantic comedies, medical dramas, and classic films, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

For those looking to subscribe, the setup process is straightforward through Amazon Prime Video. Current Prime members can add Howdy instantly, while standalone Prime Video users are also eligible. The activation requires no password changes or separate logins; instead, users enjoy a seamless experience with a simple click.

Roku’s decision to bring Howdy to Amazon Prime Video reflects confidence in the service’s potential after its initial launch. Roku CEO Anthony Wood had previously signalled plans to broaden Howdy’s availability, and today’s launch aligns with industry trends favouring smaller, more affordable subscription options over all-encompassing mega-services.

In summary, Howdy’s integration into Prime Video offers a compelling ad-free alternative for subscribers seeking to enhance their streaming experience without significantly increasing costs. With an extensive library and a user-friendly sign-up process, Howdy is certainly worth considering for those seeking new entertainment options.
