Serious Kids Secures Rights For “Tastebuddies”

Serious Kids is thrilled to announce global distribution and licensing agreements for the animated series “Tastebuddies,” co-produced by Pikkukala, Dibulitoon, and Ink and Light. Production on this exciting animated series has officially launched, with the first episodes set to premiere at MIFA later this year. The distribution deal encompasses worldwide rights, excluding Spain, Finland, and Ireland.

The creative team behind “Tastebuddies” includes scripts edited by Lena Byrne (known for “Jessy and Nessy” and “Becca’s Bunch”) and written by a talented group that includes Jo Clegg (“Hey Duggee,” “Pip and Posy”), Amy Stephenson, Shane Langan (“Dorg van Dango,” “Silly Sundays”), Beatriz Iso, Amaia Ruiz (“Spirit of the Forest,” “Superthings”), Marta Armengol Royo (“Royals Next Door,” “Elvis Riboldi”), and Emma Hogan (“Maddie + Triggs,” “Nelly & Nora”). The series has been commissioned by RTVE, 3Cat, RTÉjr, and YLE, with production spanning Spain, Finland, and Ireland, supported by funding from ICEC, Konstsamfundet, MEDIA, and Screen Ireland.

“Tastebuddies” revolves around six-year-old Leo, who enjoys cooking with his parents (who are soon to welcome a baby sister) and his loving grandmother. Embracing a diverse food culture, the family’s motto is to “Eat the Rainbow,” a concept Leo embodies with the help of his five Taste Buddies. By spinning the Tasty Wheel, they embark on culinary adventures to fill up the rainbow on their fridge. The series also delves into relatable emotional themes that echo Leo’s experiences.

Veronica Lassenius, the creator and director of “Tastebuddies,” expressed her excitement about the project: “We are thrilled to share the beginning of production and the partnership with Serious Kids. ‘Tastebuddies’ offers an engaging way for children to discover the flavours of the rainbow and how they complement one another. It is not a cooking show or nutritional guide but rather an adventurous exploration.”

Genevieve Dexter, Founder and CEO of Serious Kids, remarked: “This show is a delightful blend of family life and action, featuring vibrant CG and 2D animation that leaps off the screen. We aim to complete the first 26 episodes by the end of this year, with the remaining episodes scheduled for June 2027. We eagerly await the opportunity to present this to audiences at MIFA.”
