Canal+ and Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) have entered into a comprehensive multi-year, multi-territory agreement to enhance content distribution. This agreement not only includes the distribution of HBO Max but also the renewal of various WBD thematic channels across multiple regions in Africa and Europe.
This expanded agreement is a continuation of the earlier arrangements established in France in 2024, which featured the renewal of the exclusive pay-TV window for Warner Bros films six months post-theatrical release in France. Additionally, HBO Max will be integrated within selected Canal+ group offers in Poland starting in 2025. The deal also renews distribution for 22 thematic channels and four free-to-air channels.
As part of this agreement, 12 WBD thematic channels will continue to be distributed throughout MultiChoice Group (acquired by Canal+ in 2025) territories, with several channels offered on an exclusive basis. The channels included are:
- CNN International and Cartoon Network – exclusive to South Africa, available non-exclusively in other regions.
- Cartoon Network Porto – exclusive to Angola and Mozambique, non-exclusive elsewhere.
- Cartoonito, Cartoonito Porto, Discovery Channel, Discovery Family, Real Time, Investigation Discovery (ID), TLC, HGTV, Travel, TNT Africa, Food Network – available non-exclusively.
In Europe, the partnership is also set to grow through strategic renewals and expansions:
- Renewals of Cartoon Network, Cartoonito, and CNN International in Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.
- Renewal of Warner TV in the Czech Republic.
- Renewal of HBO Max, HBO, and Cinemax in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania.
- Expansion of HBO Max distribution via Canal+ into two additional countries: Belgium and Austria.
HBO Max is preparing for a significant launch across Europe on January 13th, with plans for a UK debut in March.
