HBO Max will launch in Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein on 13 January, extending the service across nearly all of continental Europe, with only the U.K. and Ireland still to come.

For the first time, viewers in these markets will gain full access to HBO Max’s complete catalogue, spanning HBO, Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Television, the DC Universe and Max Originals. Flagship titles include The Last of Us, House of the Dragon, Euphoria, The White Lotus, It: Welcome to Derry and The Pitt, as well as major films such as Dune, The Batman, Superman and the Harry Potter franchise. The launch coincides with live coverage of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, running from 6 to 22 February.

Local productions will form a core part of the platform’s appeal. In Germany, new titles include 4 Blocks Zero, a prequel to the hit crime series 4 Blocks, and Banksters, a real-life heist drama. Other additions include a documentary by the Beetz Brothers on Berlin’s stolen Big Maple Leaf Coin and a Struwwelpeter-themed thriller from Dark creators Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar.

Italian audiences can expect Melania, centred on the 2011 murder of Melania Rea, and Marco Bellocchio’s Portobello, arriving on 20 February. Docuseries releases include Gina Lollobrigida: Diva Contesa and Saman, exploring cultural legacy and tragic family conflict. Feature films for Italy include Nonostante, directed by and starring Valerio Mastandrea, and Squali, the debut feature from Daniele Barbiero, featuring Lorenzo Zurzolo and James Franco.

“We are delighted to bring HBO Max to new European countries this January,” said JB Perrette, CEO and president of global streaming and games at Warner Bros. Discovery. “With our strongest line-up yet of U.S. and local series, blockbuster films, unmissable live sports and compelling real-life stories, it has never been easier to enjoy the best of HBO Max.”

The launch significantly expands viewing choice across Europe, offering a broad library of acclaimed series, major film franchises, live sports and a growing slate of regional productions—all within a single platform. For audiences, it marks a substantial upgrade in access to premium storytelling and high-quality entertainment.
