At the just-concluded Broadcasters Convention – Southern Africa in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, Nikita Volkov, Deputy Head of International Cooperation and Distribution at RT, highlighted the broadcaster’s commitment to amplifying authentic African voices, heritage, and socio-political discourse across the continent.

The presentation, titled “RT for Africa: Africa Within RT,” detailed the network’s strategic growth, unique content offerings, and extensive physical presence in key African markets, reaffirming RT’s mission to share African values and perspectives globally.

A central element of the presentation was RT’s original programming, dedicated to exploring the continent’s history and current affairs. Mr Volkov highlighted the popular series “Lumumba’s Africa,” featuring renowned Pan-Africanist Prof. P.L.O. Lumumba, and the documentary initiative “African Legacy.” These programs emphasised themes of anti-colonial struggle, human dignity, and the call for African resources to benefit Africa, resonating with powerful quotes displayed prominently during the presentation.

“Our goal was to transcend the traditional media narratives that often marginalise the African perspective,” said Nikita Volkov. “The enthusiastic reception at SAB 2025 confirmed that there is a deep demand across Southern Africa and the continent for media that engages with the tough questions of neo-colonialism and champions the rich legacy and future of Africa.”

The presentation also showcased the extensive reach of RT’s brand campaign across Africa, featuring striking billboards in major cities in countries including Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Ghana, and Ethiopia. These campaigns prominently featured quotes from African leaders and thinkers, driving home RT’s message of “YOUR VALUES SHARED” and commitment to localised, relevant engagement.

In a further sign of its long-term investment in the region, RT highlighted its educational outreach through the RT Academy, offering free online courses and seminars designed to empower the next generation of journalists and media professionals.

RT looked forward to strengthening its collaborations with African broadcasters and distributors to ensure its content reached the widest possible audience, facilitating a broader, more balanced global media dialogue.
