StarzPlay, the popular SVOD platform, has unveiled the exclusive regional premiere of The Smashing Machine, a gripping feature film featuring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt. This exciting announcement took place during the live stream of UFC 321 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Viewers can look forward to the film’s debut on December 1, perfectly timed with the UAE’s 54th National Day weekend.

Based on a true story, The Smashing Machine follows the life of MMA legend Mark Kerr, renowned for his dominance in the early UFC era. The film explores not just his prowess as a fighter but also his personal battles outside the octagon. As Kerr reaches the peak of his career, he grapples with addiction, physical challenges, and the emotional toll of success. His relationship with girlfriend Dawn Staples, played by Blunt, becomes strained amid these escalating pressures.

Directed by Benny Safdie, the film promises a raw and emotional journey into the sacrifices athletes make for glory, highlighting the intricate balance between victory and self-destruction. Critics are already praising Johnson’s performance, marking it as one of his most intense and transformative to date, revealing depths of his acting abilities that are seldom seen.

The Smashing Machine will stream exclusively on StarzPlay starting December 1, representing a significant addition to the platform’s premium content lineup and coinciding with a momentous celebration for audiences throughout the region during the UAE National Day weekend.
